Recently, the Institute of African Studies at Nanjing University has made notable contributions to the academic community by publishing several research papers in international journals. Under the leadership of Professor Zhang Zhenke, a team of researchers has made significant achievements in related fields.
Priyanko Das, a doctoral student, published a paper titled “Historical and projected changes in Extreme High Temperature events over East Africa and associated meteorological conditions using CMIP6 models” in the Global and Planetary Change journal. The study provides a comprehensive analysis of the trends and patterns of extreme high temperature events in East Africa and their association with meteorological conditions. This research offers valuable insights into the impact of extreme drought on agricultural production in the region, thereby contributing to the scientific basis for studying climate change in East Africa.
Africa has 38 coastal countries and island countries, and marine fisheries are critical to the economic and social development of African coastal countries. Bi Mo, a doctoral student, published “Evaluation of Sustainable Utilization of African Marine Fishery Resources” in the journal Fishes as the first author. Through an analysis of the current state of African marine fishery resource development, the paper evaluates the sustainable utilization of these resources.
Urbanization in Africa has long been a subject of great interest in academic research. Ren Hang, a doctoral graduate, published a paper titled “Bibliometric analysis on African urbanization studies: patterns and trends of published articles” in the South African Geographical Journal, marking the first time Chinese scholars have published in this journal. The paper provides a comprehensive review of the key themes and trends in African urbanization research.
Another doctoral graduate, Wei Guoen, published a paper titled “Investigating the impact of multi-dimensional urbanization and FDI on carbon emissions in the belt and road initiative region: direct and spillover effects” in the Journal of Cleaner Production. This paper offers a quantitative analysis of the impact of urbanization and foreign direct investment on carbon emissions in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, and discusses its spillover effects.
Professor Zhang Zhenke is the corresponding author for all of these papers.
